Acid Buf: Acid Buf is our rumen buffer of choice at Five Star, not only because it is a highly effective rumen buffer but it is also an excellent natural source of Calcium and Magnesium. It is also much more palatable than Sodium Bicarbonate. Agolin: Agolin is an essential oil based product which we use as a natural rumen modifier. Studies have shown higher milk yield, increased live weight gain, better feed conversion efficiency, increased propionic acid production and decreased methane production. It also acts as an excellent palatant, and our customers tell us that they have noticed the difference in their milking times because their cows are keen to come into the dairy. Anionic Salts: Used in transition rations for dairy cattle. Anionic salts cause rations to be more acidic, increasing the absorption of dietary calcium and stimulating mobilization of bone calcium. Ammonium chloride is also used in lamb rations to prevent urinary calculi. Bovatec: Used for the prevention of coccidiosis and improve growth rates in calves. Bentonite: Arumpo Stockfeed Bentonite is registered for improved adaptation to high concentrate diets and assists in the prevention of acidosis in sheep and cattle. It also guards against the effects of aflatoxins. Bloatguard: Controls bloat in cattle. Betaine: Betaine is a sugar beet derived product which helps reduce heat stress and maintains milk production during times of hot weather. Betaine maintains dry matter intake, and also has an energy sparing effect where the cow uses less energy to keep cool. It also assists cows recover more quickly from excessive heat over Summer.
Dicalcium Phosphate: Also known as DCP, a source of Phosphorous which is an essential mineral for bone growth in young stock and milk production in dairy cattle. Diamond V Yeast Culture: Diamond V Yeast Culture is a yeast metabolite created through a unique fermentation process. As it’s a yeast metabolite, it can be safely pelletised with no loss of efficacy. Research studies have shown improved dry matter intake and digestibility, increased milk production, better feed conversion efficiency and improved animal health. It is designed to be fed all year round but it is especially beneficial for young calves, cows in transition from pre-calving through early lactation, and supporting the requirements of the high production herds. Elitox: Elitox is a mycotoxin management product, so it binds and deactivates mycotoxins. It is very useful in Summer when perennial ryegrass toxicoses can become an issue, but also protection from mycotoxins formed in moldy hay or poorly made silage. Eskalin: Eskalin is an S4 scheduled medication for the prevention of lactic acidosis in cattle. It can only be added on the provision of a script from your veterinarian. Flaveco: Flaveco is a registered ionophore which has been shown to assist with digestion of high fibre diets, which is why we choose to include Flaveco as standard in our Premium Hi Pro. Studies have shown increased fibre digestion, increased milk yields, higher protein content and increased butterfat yields. There has also been some additional benefit gained with lower somatic cell counts and increased cow fertility.
Magnesium Sulphate: A source of magnesium for dairy cows, and an Anionic Salt. Magnesium Oxide: A form of magnesium used in dairy rations. Molafos: Molasses based product included as a source of rapidly digestible energy but also for ration palatability. Also contains vitamins and minerals. Molafos Gold: Molasses based product which also contains oil for minimising dust in crushed grain rations. Monensin: Sodium Monensin, which is registered for increased feed conversion efficiency and bloat control at higher inclusion rates. Monensin is a product that we don’t use due to some concerns over the labelling requirements for the product in the U.S.A; however we do maintain a small stock for clients who specifically request its inclusion. Organic Minerals: Trace minerals which are more bio-available to the animal as they are bound to a type of protein, amino acid, sugar or yeast, so they resist being tied up by other antagonists in the diet (excess iron is a good example). Organic forms of Zinc, Cobalt, Copper, Manganese, Selenium and Chromium are available. FSSF includes Organic Cobalt and Organic Selenium into our Seasonal Vitamin and Mineral premixes and include Manganese, Zinc and Copper at an already high rate. We can add extra Organic Minerals on request if required but are confident our mineral levels in our premix will cater for the requirements of most high production herds.
Regano: Regano is included into our FSSF Premium Calf pellet due to its proven results against Salmonella, E.coli, Clostridia and Coccidia. It is mostly used in pig feed but has shown some excellent results in ruminants as well.
Salt: The cheapest and most effective way to supplement sodium to livestock. Trace Minerals: Also known as Micro Minerals, required in small amounts by livestock, typically measured in parts per million (ppm). Iodine, Zinc, Copper, Molybdenum, Fluorine, Cobalt, Selenium and Chromium are micro minerals needed by the dairy cow. Vitamins: Vitamins are organic compounds, required in very small amounts that are essential for life and must be absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Dietary essential vitamins must be included in the diet, or vitamins and can be synthesized by microorganisms in the digestive system and absorbed by the host animal.
